My outline- Opposition Whip-For Robots

My INTRO—Like my partner it is said 950,000 – That’s the total number of industrial robots (automatically controlled reprogrammable multipurpose manipulator) in operation worldwide.
In this article online, which is all on robots states, “We are born, we live our lives and at the end - we die. That's the truth. However, the quality of our lives often correlates with our health. Generally, the healthier we are the more we can achieve - thus the happier we can be.”   This is what I came to talk to today, how robots can help us in the medical field to become better faster and ultimately healthier.

REBUTTAL-Our opponents have stated that…..

AIM PREVIEW My purpose is to explain how robots help aid in the environment and medical field and how we don’t need to fear them in our society.

I. FIRST Environment
            A. Just like my partner talked about the robots that cleaned up the oceans from the BP oil spill. The robots that were designed to digest surface oil for weeks on end. Made of material that’s engineered to attract oil and repel water, the floating bots are able to locate contaminated areas and can hold 20 times their weight in oil.
B. And the robots that were unveiled as a rice grain–sized robot (one millimeter in diameter) that can reportedly crawl through a person’s veins and arteries (typically two millimeters in diameter) in order to help treat blockages and cancer. That were equipped with a drill, camera and mini-blades, the tiny robot is expected to administer drugs in hard-to-reach places, perform surgery on micro-tumors and help make diagnoses

II. Second, MY OTHER POINT IS Medical
If you had someone you loved that had to have surgery these robots can help save their lives because of their precise nature and abilities.

Some examples of medial
A. For example: My grandpa was diagnosed with lung cancer and he is undergoing this radiation procedure called cyberknife which is a robotic system to help get invasive treatment to cancer patients with beams of radiation with beams of radiation that involves no cutting and provides pain-free treatment for people who are looking for alternative options to surgery. It is also the “world’s first and only robotic radiosurgery system designed to treat tumors throughout the body non-invasively”. Therefore, it is a better way to precisely target the cancerous area without affecting the whole body and immune system which results in faster recovery like my grandpa who is said will recover in about 3 days after the procedure with only suffering a little from fatigue, which I’m sure he is used to =)

B. In addition the Israel Institute of Technology in Haifa: says that Professor. Moshe Shaham, head of Robotics developed a miniature robotic fly, about 0.04 inches in diameter, that can enter the body to diagnose diseases and conditions like blocked arteries and deliver drugs like a bomb to infected tumors. He also says “adding that mini medical devices are the future of medicine: We will see more and more [medical practitioners] working in this way. Of course, targeted medicine can release drugs in a specific location. We try to work along these lines. Drugs that can home in on a certain location using a small robot that goes to the right location.” They also have created a snake-shaped robot that can create a small incision so you don't have to have open-heart surgery. And because they are controlled unit that is external to the body, it can work for limitless periods of time, never needing a battery recharge during a procedure. The researchers believe that with the addition of a camera, the latest tiny bot could be perfected for use in brachytherapy (short distance radiation therapy), which is commonly used for treating head, neck and prostate cancer.

C. Shaham's research in medical robotics has already borne fruit in a device called SpineAssist, which is marketed by Mazor Surgical Technologies. “Robots are already performing surgeries on a daily basis - performing spine surgeries around the world,” he says. In addition, as noted by Eric Morris in his article about Medical robots they are one of the most helpful applications of robots. They are used in various medical practices, including difficult and precise surgical procedures. They are also used to assist patients in recovery and in the performance of routine tasks for patient care. Medical robots have computer-integrated technology and are comprised of complicated programming languages, controllers, and advanced sensors. They also possess powerful control units, a programming terminal, and process-oriented software for various medical applications. Furthermore, medical robots are used for training surgeons and providing in-depth knowledge to students. These robots provide standardized operation, which reduces the time required to perform any medical operation. They provide positional certainty and confined movement, which can lead to improved post-operative outcomes. The major potential advantages of medical robots are precision and miniaturization in medical operations. Further advantages are articulation beyond normal manipulation and three-dimensional magnification to help provide the best treatment and help patients everywhere.

CONCLUSION- Robots have been created to do the more precise tasks that can help save the lives of our loved ones. And have been created with them in mind.

Summary- Therefore, we want to express how Robots will help the world with aiding us in the work force in working on the more dangerous jobs therefore creating more jobs, environmental issues such as oil spills, and in Medical field in being more precise. So I hope that you understand why we need Robots and should not fear them! Thank you!

Evaluation of Mock Interview

What did I do well for the Mock Interview?

I did well telling stories and allowing my personality to shine through. Another thing, I was able to show my unique qualities in the examples I provided, which allowed the interviewer to get to know me. I also dressed appropriately, brought my resume, and asked questions of the interviewer.

What could I improve on?

I could improve on being more confident in what I have to offer. This includes not using filler words, and simply just being prepared for the questions that will be asked and be able to relate it back to the job, and why my abilities are needed in the company. I need to not appear nervous by fidgeting with my hands. Another thing I can work on is pausing before a question and think of the answer for the question I am unprepared for, to gather my thoughts. But most of all I need to work on being myself.

Job Interview Questions

Question 1: Tell me about yourself.

I have a history of employment in people related jobs, that range from being a parking assistant, sales cashier, event coordinator, and a kid's counselor. These jobs have helped me develop skills in resolving conflict quickly, organizing activities, and being motivated to do any job with committed excellence and motivation. I have encountered difficult situations which have allowed me to build my abilities to adapt to any situation that comes. In addition, I have had to be in constant communication with all kinds of people and work with them to make sure they are happy and satisfied, while doing my job. I love encouraging people and being able to see the results of getting tasks done efficiently and quickly. I have a strong sense of self-motivation in any task I am given to make sure I get things done with the best of my abilities, always giving 110%.

Question 2: Can you perform under pressure?

I have been in several pressure related situations where I had to take responsibility and take action in resolving conflict. One time when I was working as a parking assistant for a Seahawks game, I was in charge of crowd control and getting cars parked, but this was difficult to complete because the fans walk wherever they want  to. This includes walking in the road, even sometimes clogging up the aisles where the cars need to go. I was having such a difficult time that my boss came up to help me get everything moving quickly. I was trying to get cars parked quickly and having everyone get to where they wanted in an efficient process by politely stopping traffic. This was difficult because the fans think that they have the right-a-way and feel they don’t need to listen to the people who are working. Therefore, one time I was trying to be courteous and tell the people to wait so some cars could get by. Some of the people thought they could mouth off to me and tell me that they didn’t have to wait, so my boss told them that they better listen to me. It felt so comforting to have someone stick up for me and that I was right in the situation. Therefore, it was a hit or miss what I was going to face, but I had to be ready to be on my A-game and be stern and tell the people what I needed from them to cooperate. This situation allowed to me be confident in the authority I had, and take control over any situation that came my way to resolve conflicts quickly so that it did not stop the process and keep everyone moving.

Question 3: What are your strengths and weaknesses?

I would say that one of my weaknesses is taking on too many tasks and responsibilities when my plate is already full. I am a generous person who feels compelled to help others and step up in situations when I am already overwhelmed and committed to other tasks. I have been working on balancing my time and prioritizing my tasks and realizing the important things that need to get done first before I take on other projects.

My strengths would be by far that I am a very hard worker and motivated to get things accomplished and completed. I work hard to do things right and make sure that they are completed to the best of my abilities. I take complete joy in getting things done. I have a very energetic personality that allows me to be focused and get things done correctly.
